Organic cotton is grown using methods that are environmentally friendly and do not use synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). It is grown in soil that has not been treated with these harmful chemicals for a number of years.

To be certified as organic, cotton farmers must follow specific production and processing guidelines set by an accredited third party, such as the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). These guidelines cover every step of the production process, from seed selection to the use of natural fertilisers and pest control methods.

Organic cotton is often grown using techniques such as crop rotation, which helps to maintain the health of the soil and reduce the need for synthetic fertilisers. It is also often grown using natural pest control methods, such as introducing beneficial insects to control pest populations.

Overall, the goal of organic cotton production is to create a sustainable and environmentally friendly system for growing and processing cotton.
